The Census
We recently had a census in ROAR. The Office of National Statistics asked each animal the following question:
- What is your species? Please pick one of the following options:
- Elephant
- Gazelle
- Lion
- Monkey
- How old are you on the 1 Jan 2023? Please give your answer in years with two decimals.
- What is the highest degree you hold?
- None: please answer 0
- GCSE: please answer 1
- A-levels: please answer 2
- Any undergraduate degree: please answer 3
- Any graduate degree (Master or PhD): please answer 4
- What is your annual income? Please give your answer in pounds with two decimals.
- Do you reside in the grasslands? If so, please indicate
True. Otherwise,False.
Additionally to these questions, the ONS also recorded how the interview was conducted (online or over the telephone).
The census did not ask about political affiliation though a private surveying company, Python & Pandas Polling Ltd. (PPP), has offered to step up. They can run surveys asking any three of the following question:
- What is your species? Please pick one of the following options:
- Elephant
- Gazelle
- Lion
- Monkey
- How old are you on the 1 Jan 2023? Please give your answer in years with two decimals.
- What is the highest degree you hold?
- None: please answer 0
- GCSE: please answer 1
- A-levels: please answer 2
- Any undergraduate degree: please answer 3
- Any graduate degree (Master or PhD): please answer 4
- What is your annual income? Please give your answer in pounds with two decimals.
- Do you reside in the grasslands? If so, please indicate
True. Otherwise,False. - How do you feel about increasing taxes? Please indicate your answer as a score from -1 (decrease in taxes) to +1 (increase in taxes).
- How do you feel about conservation efforts? Please indicate your answer as a score from 0 (cut down all the trees right now) to 1 (maintain them and plant some more)
PPP has robust methods in place to ensure that the data obtained is 100% accurate. To ensure this, they only offer surveys of up to 1000 animals. Note that they will not account for sampling biases.
